Troubleshooting for Clients
If you have difficulty logging in to SolidWorks Workgroup PDM, check the following:
-
Vault computer. The vault computer is the name of the computer where the vault is stored, not the folder.
You can substitute the Internet Protocol (IP) address for the computer name. If the vault and the client software are on the same computer, you can use localhost for the computer name.
-
User name and password. Your Workgroup PDM account is not necessarily the same as your Windows system account. The vault administrator defines the accounts on the Users and Groups tab of the VaultAdmin tool.
-
Service. The vault service must be running (it normally starts automatically). The vault administrator can confirm that service has been started.
-
Installation. See the SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Installation and Administration Guide, which is located at <install_dir>Clientlang<language>install_PDMWorks.htm. The network software for the TCP/IP protocol must be installed on all computers using Workgroup PDM. The software must be configured to allow for network connectivity between the Vvault and the clients. To test your network connection:
-
Open a DOS shell.
-
Enter the following DOS command: ping <server_name or IP_Address>
A message Bad IP Address indicates that the installation or configuration is incorrect.
-
If your connection uses a virtual private network (VPN), the connection may be slow.
-
Port conflict. The vault administrator can check the port configuration.
