Search for Document

Use the Search for Document tool to locate a document within the vault. You can generate a report from the results.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Search for Document The Search for Document dialog box is a simplified version of the Advanced Search dialog box that appears when you initiate a command to search the vault view.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Search for Document If metadata indexing is enabled for the vault, all document revisions are searched. Otherwise, only the latest revisions are searched. See VaultAdmin Search.

To locate a document within the vault:

  1. In the SolidWorks client, right-click in the vault view and select Find / Search, or click Find / Search SolidWorks Explorer tool search Search for Document in the SolidWorks Task Pane. In the SolidWorks Explorer client, right-click in the vault view and click Search Vault SolidWorks Explorer tool swexplorer search Search for Document in the Mini Toolbar.

  2. If the Advanced Search dialog box appears, click Simplified.

  3. In the Search for Document dialog box, in the Search list, select a property.  When you choose Display Info, all properties that are displayed in   vault view labels are searched.

  4. In the for box, type the text for which to search.

  5. Under Direction, choose either Backward or Forward.

  6. Under Options, select or clear Ignore case, Exact match, and Ignore Links (document shortcuts) as needed.

  7. Click Find.

    The first item that matches the search criteria is highlighted in the vault view.

    SolidWorks Explorer tip Search for Document Except for Display Info, the labels do not need to be displayed to be searched.

  8. Click Find Next to find additional items that match the search criteria.

  9. Click Generate Report to access the Search Results dialog box, which lists all the documents that meet the search criteria.
