References/Where Used

Show references

  • Show one level of references. Shows one level of model references. For example, if a selected assembly contains a sub-assembly, the sub-assembly document is listed, but its components are not.

  • Show all levels of references. Shows all levels of model references. For example, if a selected assembly contains a sub-assembly, the sub-assembly is listed, and so are its components. The component names are indented under the sub-assembly name.

Look for

Select items to show on the References and Where Used tabs in the expanded view of SolidWorks Explorer:

  • Model references (for References). Searches for all models that are components of a selected assembly.

  • In-context references (for References). Searches for all components created in the context of the selected assembly.

  • Assemblies and drawings (for Where Used). Searches for all assemblies and drawings where the selected model is used. When cleared, searches only for models defined in the context of the selected model.

  • Virtual components (for Where Used). Searches for all virtual components where the selected model is used. Selecting this option has significant performance impact.

File Locations

  • Remove. Removes the selected folder from Folder path.

  • Include SolidWorks File Locations->Referenced Documents folders. When selected, searches folders that you specify for Referenced Documents in the File Locations Options dialog box in the SolidWorks application. When cleared, searches only the current working directory.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options Limiting the scope of the search by clearing this option reduces check-in time.

SolidWorks Explorer tip OptionsThis option is superseded if you select Include drawings under Check in on the Command Defaults tab. In that case, only the working folder is searched.

  • To document on disk. Saved local copy.

  • To document in memory. Open file currently in memory, shown in the SolidWorks Explorer swicon Options folder at the top of the local view.

Show vault comparison icons for documents in local view. Select to display the comparisons with the vault copy in the local view.

Show selections in ProjectManager for SolidWorks Explorer icon sad Options applies to the SolidWorks client only)

Allows highlighting In ProjectManager (vault view).

When you select an assembly component in the graphics area, the corresponding component in the ProjectManager is highlighted, and vice versa.

Document ranges in vault tree

You can group documents into ranges in the vault view display. Ranges apply to the first level of documents in a project. Setting ranges improves performance.

Documents are grouped by document name and placed in folders named with the first and last document in the folder (doc000000.dwg…doc000499.dwg, for example).

Documents per range. Specify the number of documents per group. To turn off this functionality, set the value to zero.

Output file defaults

The output file defaults apply to information that you output to file.

Tab delimit fields. Delimits the fields in the files by tabs.

Comma delimit fields. Delimits the fields in the files by commas.

Show header. Column headers.

Show extra header info. The date and time the report is generated, the name of the document being reported on, and the place in Workgroup PDM from which the report is generated ( VaultView , for example).

Double quote fields. Double quotation marks surrounding each field, in addition to the field delimiter.

Password

Change. Create a new password for your current User name in the Change Password dialog box.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options The password for a user name is originally set by the vault administrator on the Users and Groups tab of the VaultAdmin. The vault administrator can also change the password if necessary (if a user is on vacation or has left the company, for example).

Clear. Remove the password that is currently saved locally so that you can save a new password.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options Saving a password locally expedites the login procedure. If no password is saved locally, you log in by typing a password in the Login dialog box.

Command Defaults

The defaults apply to the specified dialog boxes.

Check in

Retain ownership. Keep ownership of the files being checked in.

Delete local copies. Delete copies of the files from the local directory when files are checked in to the vault.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options Local copies of documents that are open in applications other than SolidWorks are not deleted.

Working copy default. Set the revision to a working copy of the current revision so the revision number is not bumped. Working copy capability is enabled by the vault administrator on the Revision Scheme tab of VaultAdmin.

Take ownership automatically. Automatically take ownership of any unowned documents when you select references.

Include drawings. Find all drawings associated with the documents being checked in and add them to the document list for every check in. The operation searches the SolidWorks search path and can take a long time. Searches of shared folders can also slow performance appreciably. You can optionally clear this option and include drawings as needed on each check in from the Check In Document dialog box, which allows you to choose the search path and limit demand on search resources.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options When this option is checked, a list of the paths that are being searched is displayed in a progress dialog. You can stop the search if it is taking too long.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options This option supersedes the Include SolidWorks File Locations > Referenced Document folders option on the Reference/Where Used tab.

Include SolidWorks Simulation results. Find SolidWorks Simulation analysis results files associated with documents being checked in and add them to the document list for every check in. SolidWorks Simulation provides information on results files in SolidWorks documents. You can optionally clear this option and include SolidWorks Simulation results as needed on each check in from the Check In Document dialog box.

Check out / Open

Select all references. All references are selected when you choose a document to check out or open. You can clear the references in the dialog box.

Include drawings. Find all drawings in the vault associated with the documents being checked out and add them to the document list. (May cause slower performance.)

Include attachments. All attachments are selected when you choose a document to check out or open.

Retrieve references. When you open a document, references can be opened either at the revision level they were when the parent document was checked in (As built), or at the revision level at which they currently exist (Latest revisions).

Change ownership

Show dialog when item has children. Displays a dialog box when you change ownership on a document with children. The dialog box controls whether to change ownership of child documents at the same time as the parent. No dialog box appears if only a single document is affected.

SolidWorks Explorer tip Options To temporarily override the default setting, press Ctrl while right-clicking and selecting an ownership change command.
